The U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) Program was established in February 2007 to provide leadership to design, operate, and improve both the national and regional networks of ocean observations, including data management components, in partnership with 17 Federal agencies, 11 Regional Associations, and a multitude of NOAA offices and programs. Ocean and coastal data integration will increase access to and compatibility of existing observations and products and will maximize the return on investment in a variety of oceanic capabilities and critical national applications.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develops and oversees the implementation of management-approved standard operating procedures for office operations such as travel, guest relations, new hires and supply orders.
  • Ensures office facilities are functioning and issues that need attention are monitored and tracked to conclusion by coordinating with the appropriate NOAA department contacts.
  • Leads the development and execution of the IOOS office annual travel process including planning, generating, and auditing travel authorizations and vouchers for individual and international travel. Prepares conference packages, obtains appropriate approvals, and conveys new policies and procedures to ensure office compliance.
  • Coordinates controlled correspondence routing and submission into the NOAA Web system and monitors the correspondence system for inbound controlled correspondence actions.
  • Coordinates IOOS Advisory Committee meeting correspondence, logistics and minutes, and website and public announcements in the Federal Register Notice.
  • Ensures IOOS Office complies with DOC/NOAA/NOS Security Administration, including building access and IT controls.
  • Develops Memorandums of Agreements and Understanding between the IOOS Office and other Federal Agencies and non-Federal partners.
  • Supports IOOS social media implementation.


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher 
  • Minimum of two years of experience providing senior executive support and staffing 
  • Possess strong written and oral communications skills as well as the ability to prioritize multiple concurrent tasks often on short deadlines
